All set for GABF Congress… Gideon Quartey for President

All is set for the much awaited Congress of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation to be held in Accra very soon.

According to a source close to the Federation, a number of personalities have expressed interest in the Congress and have picked nomination forms.

For the position of President, two people are contesting. They are Gideon Kwartey Quartey and Eugine Appiah. For Vice President, there six contestants made up of George Lamptey, Alan Sackey, Benjamin Webster Allotey, Michael Nii Ahele Nunoo, Abraham Kotey Nii Fuefe and Eric Alfred Bannerman.

For Second Vice President slot is another two man race between Osabu Odonkor and Abdul Samadu Mohammed.

For Treasurer are Bernard Quartey and Theophilus Quaye Mensah.

Contesting for Executive Members position are Ebenezer Ofili Quaye, Theophilus Edwin Addo and Nii Akrama Tagoe.

The source said once nominations are opened every body who is interested and has something positive to offer Ghana boxing is welcome.

Recently it was in the news that Ike Bazooka Quartey, former WBA champion was interested in the President position, but he is yet to pick his nomination form.

The Congress of the GABF has experienced some backward and forward moves, but it is very good for the Ghana Boxing fraternity and stakeholders to know the laws and rules in the game and business of amateur boxing, as they have heeded to the instructions of International Amateur Boxing body and an African representation will observe a free and fair Congress.
