All you need to know about GFA’s 24th Congress

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday, 21 January, 2017 held its 24th Ordinary Session of Congress at the FA’s Secretariat in Accra.

Notably, Congress wasn’t scheduled for yesterday but after a vote, 80 delegates voted in favour of Congress to be held while 11 Delegates voted against the motion of congress being held especially after the courts dismissed Great Olympics application for interlocutory injunction on the commencement of the 2017/18 football season.

In his address at the congress, President of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi, declared Tema Youth, Great Olympics and Bolga All Stars were officially relegated after occupying bottom spot in the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League (GPL) while winners of the various zones in last season’s Division One League namely Dreams FC, Techiman Eleven Wonders and Karela promoted to the top division.

The President of the GFA further reiterated the association desire to follow the three-year calendar of the association and further stated that any unforeseen circumstance will be dealt with by “closing the gap by picking the dates on the new calendar,” Nyantakyi said.

Nyantakyi further revealed that, they will make new appointment with regards to the position of General Manager, Marketing Directors and Media Officers of various leagues who will see to the day-to-day running of all domestic competitions.

Nyantakyi also stated that, they will ensure the full digitization of the records keeping of various competitions which will help eliminate the human error which has proved very detrimental to the difficulties of the GFA.

Notably, the new football season will commence on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th of March, 2018 the President of GFA confirmed with the launch of the league set for Monday, 26 February, 2018.

Meanwhile, the GFA is expected to hold an extra ordinary congress in the next coming as they expected to deliberate on the financial accounts of the association as well as other issues that wasn’t discussed at yesterday’s congress.
