English Premier League giants Manchester United are searching for a new coach to lead their technical team following the dismissal of Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag.
According to reports, Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim, who has won the Portuguese league twice, is the leading candidate to take over the vacant coaching role.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the Red Devils are set to trigger the €10 million exit clause in the coach’s contract to get him from the Portuguese club.
It was also added that Amorim has agreed to take over the United coaching job immediately after assessing the project the club presented, despite their abysmal performance at the start of the 2024/2025 season.
There were other rumors that former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez and Inter Milan head coach Filippo Inzaghi are also part of the options being explored in case the team fails to secure the signature of Amorim.
This comes after Erik Ten Hag was sacked by Manchester United following the team’s struggles at the beginning of the 2024/2025 season.
During Ten Hag’s stint with United, he won two FA Cup trophies and one Carling Cup but did not show consistency in results, leading to the sacking.
Assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken over as the interim manager until a substantive coach is appointed.
United will face Chelsea at Old Trafford in their next Premier League game, which is anticipated to be an exciting encounter considering United’s struggles and the Blues’ brilliant form.
