Following on from his winning goal in FC Kobenhavn’s Danish Cup shootout victory over Randers FC, Daniel Amartey has found the net again in the Superligaen.

FC Kobenhavn end the weekend in second place in the Danish top flight after a 3-1 victory over Brondby IF.

The capital club suffered an early setback when Mikael Antonsson had to be replaced by Per Nilsson after only 20 minutes. However, the loss didn’t affect the Lions too much and they opened the scoring through Amartey just before the break.

Brondby failed to clear their lines and the ball fell to the centre-back who was hovering just outside the opposition box.

Amartey hit the ball firmly and cleanly and sent an unstoppable strike past Lukas Hradecky.

Brondby started well after the break and responded almost immediately through Jose Ariel Nunez. Other teams might have wilted, but Kobenhavn are made of stern stuff and retook the lead via Nicolai Jorgensen on 52 minutes.

Amartey was replaced by Christian Poulsen on 83 minutes before Thomas Delaney added a third just before the final whistle.

Despite the victory and the three points, the 10-time Superligaen champions remain off the pace in the top flight this season. They sit eight points behind top-team FC Midtjylland with 17 games gone.

Amartey has hit the ground running since returning from Equatorial Guinea in the middle of February. He made his league return for Kobenhavn in the away league defeat to Odense, but shone in the cup triumph over Randers.

The youngster made a late run into Avram Grant’s Afcon squad after impressing the Israeli coach. His versatility proved useful and he started all three of Ghana’s group games before being injured in the clash with South Africa.

He was replaced in this match and didn’t feature in the tournament again as the Black Stars went on to lose the final against Ivory Coast on penalties.
