Peter.K Amenyo saw a breakout after first hole bogey scare and a draining hole two for par, to an amazing finish at the Lipton 3rd Anniversary Golf Championship in the Men A Division at the Tema Country Golf Club over the weekend.
A birdie at hole 4 kept his game on a great surge; his drive was spot on, coupled with amazing chipping and putting incursions, he sunk birdies on par-5 ninth, par-5 sixteenth and par-5 eighteenth for his ultimate victory. He scored to a net of 67 off handicap 4.
He recorded as many as 12 pars that made bogeys on holes one and seven somehow impressive in their own way.
“I am excited at this wonderful feat. I have managed several remarkable places in previous Lipton events and other tournaments as well. Therefore, I am happy that, I finally clinched the ultimate Lipton trophy at their 3rd Anniversary.” He said.
His win brings to two the number of wins for the year following his victory at the Cal Bank Invitational tourney at the same venue.
F. Akafo finished on a net score of 72 off handicap 3 for second place after beaten Emmanuel K. Ocansey to third place finish on a count back.
Ocansey recorded same net score off handicap 7. “I had a good game, though I must admit that, the event was one of the most exacting, looking at the caliber of golfers that played on the day.” Ocansey remarked.
Fourth place went to S.K Ayornu on 73 off 5, Ernest Opoku, 73 off 3 for fifth place and A.Y Fiagome, 74 off 8 for sixth place.
In the Ladies’ A Division, Clara Price emerged winner on a net score of 81 off handicap 20, after enduring ankle-high rough encounters and out of bounds scare.
Ladies Open winner, Jessica Tei returned a net score of 85 off handicap 12 to secure second place. Adelaide Owusu-Adjapong surfaced third on a net score of 58 with Esi Cobbinah for fourth place on a net score of 89.
Isaac Awuni made a huge recovery for a birdie on hole seventeenth after recording a medley of bogeys and pars following a few drives into the roughs for first place in the Men B Division. He scored to a net score of 67 off handicap 18.
K. Arkaah returned same net score of 67 off handicap 18 for second place on countback. Noel Hammond played to a net score of 73 off handicap 16 for third place finish and beat into fourth place, F. Quartey on 74 off 24.
P. Galley was winner in the Ladies B Division after she returned a net score of 79 followed by Aileen Conteh on a net score of 81. In the pros division, Victor Brave-Mensah was the proud winner of the ultimate cash prize of GHC800.00. Other cash prizes ranging from GHC600.00 to GHC200.00 were presented to 2nd and 6th place winners.
Lipton made available outstanding trophies and other souvenirs for winners in the various amateur divisions.
The Open drew together about 150 amateurs and pros and Francis Afoani, Brands Manager, was upbeat about this feat, “This is indeed a positive sign of how Lipton is supporting the game of golf in Ghana.”
