ABDULAI Amidu, who has been listed among the few Ghanaian talents for the impending “Warriors of Africa” showdown, will have a fitting brush-up in no less a manner than a shot at the ABU lightweight title on the “Night of the Ninjas” bill fixed for the Globe Cinema in Accra on May 30.
The hurdle between Amidu (the Classic) and continental glory in this second Landmark Promotions and Management Limited show is none other than Ben ‘Congo Soldier” Ankrah.
Landmark Promotions’ maiden bill last November outdoored the real talent in Amidu who has known no turning back since, as evidenced in his 11-0-0 (10 kos) fight record.
And it was to underscore his confidence and maturity that he threw an open challenge to the ABU featherweight champion, Malik Jabir, immediately after ascending the African throne last March.
However, that dream has not yet been realised compelling Amidu to move up a step in weight to seek another alternative.But the alternate choice is no easy task either, especially, where his opponent is on record to have decisioned the ABU super featherweight champion, Kpakpo Allotey, in a recent challenge contest. That feat earned Ankrah (7-2-0, 3 kos) the national and West Africa belt from which he is expected to draw inspiration to go for the ABU lightweight belt.
Middleweight titlist, James Obedi Toney who, like Amidu, is under the management of Landmark Promotions will test his strength against Watara Salifu of Burkina Faso in a 10-round international middleweight clash.Toney, alias ‘Hot Ice’, now boasts of a fight record of 15-0-0 with 14 kayoes and sees Watara (12-2-0, 7 kos) as no threat especially after taking all known potential challengers in Africa through the short route.
On the same bill, Ayitey Powers who is remembered for his recent impressive outing against nagged Joshua Clottey, engages his name sake, Ayitey Adjin in a fight which has the national and West Africa Super welterweight title at stake. Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku who has declared his intentions to wrestle James Toney’s ABU title warms up against an opponent to be named later from Burkina Faso in an international super middleweight contest over eight rounds.
Also to thrill fans will be Benin’s darling boy, Adjaho Ange who fights former WBC international champion Burkinabe Dramane Nabbalou in a 10-round international super featherweight bout while Mustapha Ampiah confronts Emmanuel Allotey in a six-round featherweight fray.
The rich eight-bout package also features Alarepe Akeem against Philip Kotey in a welterweight contest over eight rounds while Jonathan Lartey faces Ayaa Laryea in a six-round super bantamweight fight.
