Mathew Amoah says the vitriolic attacks suffered as a returning foreign-based player to play in the local league puts him off the idea.

The 31-year-old striker appears to be winding down an illustrious career in Europe spanning 14-years and is toing with the idea of making a return to the Ghana league.

But the experiences of past professionals who made similar moves according to the Mersin Idmanyurdu player makes the prospect highly unlikely.

“Elsewhere on the African continent, mos countries welcome their big players from Europe into their respective leagues with no problems,” he told Kumasi-based Agel FM.

“It would have been very nice for supporters to come to the stadium to watch Mathew Amoah, or Stephen Appiah and the likes.

“But the kind of insuslts you receive with some also going to your family makes it very difficult for some of us to make such a move.

“Odartey Lamptey for instance on his return to Asante Kotoko suffered similar attacks and it is an ordeal no player would like to go through.”

Laryear Kinston is the latest to make such a transition after returning to his boyhood club Hearts of Oak in an attempt to relaunch his career.
