Anas Exposé: Jail 70 bribed referees one year each – Tony Yeboah

Former Black Star and Leads United striker, Anthony Walley Yeboah has called for the imprisonment of referees caught on camera accepting bribes to manipulate football matches score lines in the Anas Aremeyaw investigative movie.

The movie, dubbed “Number 12” which was aired on June 6 2018 in Accra exposed officials of Ghana football and match officiating officials engaging in underhand dealings.

Ghanaians were left spellbound on seeing what goes on in the dark within the country’s football circles with prominent personalities neck-deep in the practice.

In the investigative video, Anas Ayeremeyaw Anas bribed more than 70 referees, match officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Officials of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports.

The amount used in bribing some of these officials was as low as GH¢300 to influence the award of red cards, yellow cards, penalties and visa deals while Mr. Nyantakyi got the lion’s share of $65,000.

However, the former Ghanaian international is also calling for the imprisonment of the said 70 referees who were seen engaging in what he described as illegal acts.

Tony Yeboah insists that none of the referees must be left off the hook to serve as a deterrent to others in the football fraternity.

“During this period, all Ghanaians must come together to champion this. At least every referee involved must serve a year imprisonment sentence” he said.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians are calling for the arrest and prosecution of the former FA boss for a corrupt administration which eventually “collapsed” football in the country.

The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) has given Mr. Nyantakyi a 90-day ban till investigations by the federation are completed.

Nyantakyi in a statement to the GFA on Friday announcing his resignation apologized for wrongdoing and also for also dragging President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the scandal.
