The Ghana superstar might have already played his last match for OM

Andre Ayew is an injury doubt for Olympique de Marseille’s final game of the season at home against at SC Bastia this weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Thursday that the player may miss Saturday night’s fixture. As reported by L’Equipe, the player has a “pain in the arch of his foot.”

The news will come as a major blow to the Phoceens, who remain in the hunt for a Champions League place.

It’s been a rollercoaster few months for OM; they slipped out of the title race following a dreadful four-game losing streak and, for a time, it looked as though they fall out of contention for a Champions League berth as well.

However, despite falling a goal behind at home against AS Monaco two weeks ago, they tore back into the match—inspired by Ayew—and registered a 2-1 victory.

A crushing 4-0 victory away at LOSC Lille last weekend reaffirmed the troubled club’s qualities and heading into Matchday 38, they remain only two points off third-placed Monaco.

The Olympians will be confident of doing the business at home against Bastia, who have nothing left to play for, while Monaco face an away match against Jordan’s FC Lorient.

However, coming up on the outside are the incredibly consistent AS Saint-Etienne, who are tied with Marseille on 66 points and could secure a third-place finish if they beat En Avant de Guingamp at home and if other results go their way.

Ayew’s potential absence means that the Black Star may have already played his last game for his beloved Marseille.

Despite being coy about his future recently, both player and club confirmed last week that the Ghanaian would be leaving the Stade Velodrome this summer.

With OM unable to offer Ayew an acceptable contract, the Black Star is set for a move away from Marseille, and probably France, with major sides across Europe keen to acquire the talented 25-year-old free agent.
