Former Newcastle defender Olivier Bernard has stated that Ghana winger Andre Ayew has the charisma needed to captain the Magpies if he is to land a move to the English Premier League club.
Andre Ayew has been on the radar of Newcastle, with the club’s Head Coach John Carver confirming in a recent interview that he has been watching the 25-year-old, though an offer is yet to be made for his services.
Marseille scout Jose Anigo has also revealed that Andre Ayew will leave the club after his contract with the Ligue 1 giants expires at the end of the season, and Olivier Bernard is excited at the prospects of the deputy Black Stars skipper signing for Newcastle.
“Ayew is one of those kind of players. He could walk into the club and take the armband with no worries whatsoever,” Bernard, who is now the CEO of English club Durham FC.
“He is a powerful player and I’m delighted that Newcastle are looking at it him as a potential summer signing – bringing him in would be the right sort of move,” the ex-Lyon and Southampton player, who retired in 2007 added.
