Marseille forward Andre Ayew has admitted, via Le 10 Sport, that he wishes to emulate the success of Chelsea’s Didier Drogba in Europe upon the expiration of his contract.

Ayew, 25, finished the season with 10 goals in Ligue 1 as he helped Marseille qualify for next season’s Europa League despite at one point the club looked likely to challenge for the title.

Paris Saint-Germain won the league for the second year in a row and Ayew’s contract expired at the weekend, as he eyes a departure from Marseille.

He’s now looking to emulate the success that Didier Drogba had once he left Marseille. The Chelsea legend left for Stamford Bridge in 2004 and won everything with the club. The Ivorian striker won the Premier League in his first two seasons while adding the FA Cup, Carling Cup and Champions League later on in his time there.

Drogba will always be remembered for his performances – and goals – in the biggest of games, and Ayew is now looking to follow suit.

“If I play at another club, I have to give it everything I have,” Ayew stated. “I hope it will go well and stay on the length in my next club. I take example off Didier Drogba, who left the club [Marseille] as a King and has managed to become someone Chelsea. That does not mean he is no longer the child of Marseille. I will try to follow that path and work hard.”

The forward has been linked with a move to the Premier League, as Liverpool were handed a boost over the weekend with Ayew’s brother admitting he wants to move to England (via Metro). However, the Daily Star claim Arsenal are among those vying for the player’s signature.

His ten goals in the league were one more than Liverpool’s top scorer, Steven Gerrard, who scored his final goal for the club in Sunday’s 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Stoke City. What is more, Ayew recorded a 57% shooting accuracy in Ligue 1 this season, alongside a reasonably clinical conversion rate of 22%.
