Ankrah and Bilal return to battle for supremacy

Accra, July 6, GNA - Ben Ankrah, a.k.a. Congo Soldier, former National Lightweight champion has been presented with another opportunity to settle scores with the current champion, Bilal Mohammed after two previous fights between the two had ended without a definite winner.

Ankrah and Mohammed are scheduled to fight on September 2, for the National Lightweight title in a decisive bout, which will put to an end the question of who is the true champion in the division. This follows series of arguments advanced by fans from the camp of Ankrah claiming that Mohammed is not the true champion because he is yet to fight the best in the division.

Previous fights between the two had ended unsuccessfully, with Mohammed making a last minute pullout early this year whilst Ankrah's abdominal pains compelled him to retire their fight in round four in March this year. This made the referee for the fight to declare the contest as "no contest" amidst protests from the camp of Mohammed. The bout, which is staged by the Commonwealth Sports Award and the Ambitions Boxing Promotions would witnessed three other championship fights.

George Ashie and Samuel Danso will vie for the vacant National Super featherweight title whilst Thomas Awimbono will take on Ishmael Tetteh for the National and West Africa Welterweight title. Isaac Quartey and Alfred "Kobra" Kotey will complete the list of championship bouts for the night as they battle for the Super Lightweight title.

Mohammed Gbenga and Odorkor Tyson are also on the list but the promoters are yet to name their respective opponents.

Mr Al Hamilton of the Commonwealth Sports Awards told the GNA Sports that the event, which is in support of the Black Stars campaign to the 2006 World Cup, is top whet the appetite of both boxing and soccer fans ahead of the Black Stars game against Uganda in September. 06 July 05
