Hubert Annan became the first Brong-Ahafo Open Snooker Champion when he beat Adamu Mohammed 3-0 in the final match of the first edition of the tournament held in Sunyani on Saturday, 6th March 2010. The tournament which was sponsored by the management of Sarel Recreational Centre, Sky FM and Emmavick Eye Clinic, Sunyani, was held on the premises of Sarel Recreational Centre, Sunyani on the 5th and 6th March. It attracted 32 participants from in and around Sunyani.
After the elimination series which was contested on knock-out basis the last remaining four contestants were engaged in an all-play-all at the end of which Annan and Mohammed topped the list with six points each followed by Abuu Issah and Kwaku Darko. The winner emerged after the best-of-five final match in which Annan beat Mohammed by three games to zero to create history by becoming the first champion of the competition which is expected to be held annually. The proud winner took home a mobile phone valued at hundred Ghana Cedis and a special certificate while the runner-up also took home a wall clock and a certificate.
Congratulating the winner and runner-up and thanking all participants and spectators for making the maiden edition of the tournament a success, Mr. Kwame Twumasi-Fofie, Director of Sarel Recreational Centre, gave the assurance that not only has the tournament come to stay as an annual event, it will also be expanded to include other indoor games such as Football Table, Monopoly, Scrabble and other indoor games from next year.
The aim of the organisers is to use these annual open games to create a unique sporting calendar for Brong-Ahafo Region. The games will however be open to participants from all parts of Ghana and even beyond.
