Annor eyes biggest prize in World Table Tennis

Lynda Nana Ama Annor is one of Ghana’s Table Tennis princesses who work with the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

She started playing the ping pong sport at the age of nine and for the past 12 years, she has regularly featured in Table Tennis tournaments and programmes unless she is occupied by another important assignment.

Over the last season, she has improved tremendously to become one of Africa’s best players and as such want to be recognized.

She represented Ghana at the 2013 SCSA International tournament in Benin and won gold.

According to the pretty Immigration officer ranked ACO 1-2, it has not been easy reaching the top and thanks her coach, Ebenezer Annang Whyte, now based in Koforidua for his inspiration and tactics that had shot her to the lime light.

She told yours truly, the 2013 Benin international tournament motivated her to beat those ranked above her and that makes her one of the probable stars to represent Ghana at the next Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

She has some international exposure after representing the nation at the All African Games in Algeria in 2007 and an international Open in South Africa in the same year.

Her disappointment was when she was dropped for the 2011 All African Games in Mozambique, but she took it as part if life and trained even harder at the Hathiramani Sports Hall, her regular training spot.

Her sports idol is Serena Williams, the top US Tennis player, with the game she loves to watch most as Tennis because she learns about their movements and strokes.

Annor who was born and bred in Accra hinted that her whole life is about Table Tennis and wants to be an Ambassador of the game in Africa.

Her ambition is to win the World Championship, if the opportunity brings itself. “In sports anything can happen and if I am in superb shape and fit, I hope to become the best player in the world. I know there are players in Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa and China, but anything can happen in sports. I believe in Ghana and I trust myself” she stated.

Her best dish is rice and stew, because she can cook it very fast and delicious with Porshe as the car who hopes to acquire in the near future.

Lynda Annor went to St. Mary’s Senior High School at Korle Gonno in Accra and she is very proud as a product of such a highly respected institution that has produced international and national heroes.

“For now my eye is on the 2013 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Award and I will the happiest sports person if I get it, because that is what I can show to my children and fans in future. I think I deserve it because I have done very well in the last year. Though I did not start the season well, I ended very well on a high note winning the Top 12 to enable me represent Ghana at Benin, where I won gold in the female category, and I was second at the Top 8 to end activities of the year” she narrated.

Lynda Annor has stepped up her training awaiting any tournament that would be announced and she appealed to companies and individuals who want the lesser known sports to be popular to support Table Tennis because it can reward the nation with more medals than football which is known as the passion of the nation.
