Annual Osagyefo Cup Competition slated Sept. 18

The fifth edition of the Annual Osagyefo Cup Competition will kick off on Saturday 18th September, 2015 at the Half Assini Senior School in the Jomoro District of the Western Region.

The event which will be participated by ten (10) Senior and Technical High Schools from seven Municipal and District Assemblies in the Western Region.

The participating schools include, Half Assini Senior High School (HASCO), Annor Adjaye Senior High school (ANASS) all from the Jomoro District, Fiaseman Senior High school (FIASEC) in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality, Huni/Valley Senior High school (HUNIVAS) in the Prestea Huni Valley District, Daboase Secondary and Technical school (DASTECH) in the Wassa East District, Nsein Senior High school (Nseinsco) in the Nzema East Municipality, Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in the Takoradi Metropolis, Kikam Technical Institute (KIMTECH), Essiama Secondary Technical School (ESTS) and Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School all in the Ellembele District.

The theme for this year's event is dubbed "A Clean Ghana: Attitude makes a Difference", will seek to promote good sanitation among the students and the citizenry especially along the coast belt of the region.

According to Koame Adonle Mieza, Executive Director of Programmes of Nzema Events Management (NEM), promoters of the event highlighted that the event is mainly aimed at honouring Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's birthday celebration, Ghana's first President and Africa's man of the Millennium.

Activities earmarked for the three-day celebration includes soccer, quiz competition and a public lecture for the students.

Mr. Adonle highlighted that the competition will also seek to unearth and promote talents, foster tolerance and mutual understanding between the citizenry within the region as well as highlight on the ideological principles that Dr. Nkrumah stood for.

The event which will be climaxed with a durbar of Chiefs and the Citizenry of Half Assini and its environs, students, politicians, clergymen and other high profile dignitaries on Monday 21st September, 2015 is partnered by Saigha Foundation, a non- governmental organisation based in Nzema and proudly sponsored by Tullow Ghana Limited, Ghana National Gas Company Limited, Karela Group and Office of Ellembele Member of Parliament.

Collaborators include, Offices of Ellembele, Prestea Huni Valley, Jomoro, Nzema East Municipal and Wassa East District Assemblies respectively as well as the Offices of the Members of Parliament for Wassa East and Prestea Huni Valley.

He stressed that, in order to help shape the stars that will be identified, Nzema Events Management has entered into a partnership agreement with Karela Football Club, a first division club in the Western region to groom and build on the career of lucky talents and called on all to support in making this year's edition a successful one.

Winners of the tournament will take away trophy, cash prizes, set of jerseys, plagues, certificates, medals etc.

category of talents to be identified include, best player of the tournament, goal king, best goalie, best defender, most disciplined team, best coach, promising player of the tournament etc.
