President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has emphatically stated that he does not impose players on national team coaches.
Over the years, there have been allegations that members of the Ghana FA Executive Committee, including President Kurt Okraku, are involved in player selection for coaches of the national teams.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Select Committee for Youth, Sports, and Tourism on Monday, September 30, the GFA President refuted the allegation, stressing that any coach who allows him to select players for them will be immediately sacked.
“If I hire a coach and the coach expects me to select players for him, I will fire the coach. I’m repeating myself: if I hire a coach for Ghana and that coach expects me, Kurt, to select players for him, that coach will be fired the next day because that is not the kind of coach I and we want to work with.
“Players for the Black Stars are selected by the technical team of the Black Stars, led by the current coach Otto Addo. Simple,” Okraku stated.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are expected to regroup next month for the doubleheader against Sudan in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Coach Otto Addo will be naming his squad for the two games later this week.
