Veteran sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has expressed concern over the lack of investment in sports by politicians and governments in Ghana.
According to him, the government only invests in the Black Stars when they are preparing for tournaments like the World Cup, aiming to please Ghanaians and gain political favor.
He pointed out that other sports, especially lesser-known ones, do not receive the same level of investment and attention, often struggling due to financial constraints.
Speaking on the United Showbiz programme aired on UTV on August 10, 2024, Kwaku Yeboah emphasized the need for politicians to pay attention to other sports and invest financially to improve their prospects.
"In our country, politicians view sports, movies, and creative arts as mere recreation, making it difficult to secure investment. They only invest in the Black Stars when they are heading to the World Cup to create a buzz and cover their shortcomings. However, they have neglected other sporting areas," he said in Twi.
There has been a public outcry over how various governments neglect sports other than football, hindering their progress.
