Prestea, Feb. 7, GNA - Mr. Anthony Ackerson, General Secretary of Mine Stars Football Club, a First Division football team based in Prestea has appealed to the Chief Executive Officer of Golden Star Bogoso/Prestea Ltd (GSRL) to deliver the promise made to support the team.
He said GSRL made a firm promise of sponsoring the team but regrettably since last year, no financial assistant was given to the team and therefore called on the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Peter Bradford to fulfill the promise to save the Club. He, however, appreciated the earlier sponsorship made in 2004 and 2005 by GSRL as the maid sponsors of the team, but that the promises are now becoming a ruse and affecting the performance of the Club. The General Secretary observed that frequent changes of General Managers of the company has also effected the delivery of promises, saying, some of them have with good intentions have fulfilled their promises while others have derailed the establish process of commitment of GSRL to the team.
Mr Ackerson said the situation is in a way affecting the cordial relationship between the company and the catchment area. He therefore appealed to the CEO to get a clear policy on sports so that even with a change of General Manager, the commitment of the mine will not be changed.
Mr. Ackerson said last year, GSRL promised 60,000 dollars part of which will be used to purchase equipment and running the Club but this has been discontinued.
He said the maintenance of the stadium has come to a standstill since last year.
In an interview with the GNA Sports at Prestea with some of the supporters of the Club regretted that the promises after acquiring surface mine rights by Prestea GSRL formerly Bogoso Gold Limited (BGL) the promises of revamping and sponsoring Mine Stars has failed to come fruition.
