Captain Stephen Appiah, has been named in Ghana's national squad for the first time in nearly a year.

He will be part of the Black Stars party that takes on Libya in a 2010 World Cup qualifier in September.

He has not played for Ghana since last November, after suffering a knee injury.

He missed the Africa Cup of Nations which was hosted by his own country earlier this year.

"I am feeling very fit now," Appiah told BBC Sport.

"I have spent months with the Italian club Brescia training privately.

"I have played many friendly matches with them to help me regain match fitness and now I'm ready to help push my country forward."

Appiah has already announced his decision to quit his Turkish club Fenerbace even though he has one year left on his contract.

He is part of new coach Milovan Rajevac's first competitive squad as boss of the Black Stars.

They face Libya in a vital qualifying match on 5 September in Tripoli.

The pair are tied at the top of their joint World and Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group, with two matches remaining.

Both Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah are absent through injury.
