Ace football analyst Jeffery Asare says Kwesi Appiah deserves to be sacked as coach of the Black Stars due to his inability to control ‘egos’ in the Black Stars dressing room.
The Ghana FA confirmed the departure of the 54-year-old just two days after leading the Black Stars to a vital 3-2 win over Togo in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Appiah’s reign as coach of the Black Stars was saddled with problems of player indiscipline with Andre Ayew, Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng taking turns with rows against the coach.
Ace football pundit Jeffery Asare admits the ex Ghana captain had to leave the job after losing control of the dressing room.
“The inability of the coach to handle egos and then some relationship issues with players. Kevin-Prince Boateng comes into mind in terms of tactic, positions and roles,” he said.
“His inability to deal with players with regards to questions over his tactics and when these issues begin to crop up, it begins to erode the confidence and firmness of the coach.”
Asare also accused Kwesi Appiah of being dishonest when it came to the appointment of a technical adviser which according to him made his stay as coach of the Black Stars untenable.
“And prior to the press conference on July 2nd [after the World Cup] Kwesi Appiah himself requested the need to beef up his technical side with the appointment of an adviser only to go to Miklin Hotel at a press soiree to say he never made such a request,” he adds.
“When you do that, you are spitting in the face of your employers and all over the world this is not done.
“When you get to this level, then my brother, it is a point of no return because you create the impression that the appointment has been imposed on you. “What it also means is that the direction that the custodians of football in this country have decided to take, you do not believe in that and then what worsens the situation is the game against Uganda.”
