Ghana Arm-wrestling Federation will hold their national open championship on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The championship is aimed at selecting athletes to augment the national team -The Golden Arms- to represent Ghana at the 2017 African Arm-Wrestling Championship in Nigeria in June.
The championship, which is open to all including the physically challenged, will see winners being awarded with fantastic prizes. The Federation will also get the opportunity to have their coaches and referees trained by a technical director of the World Arm-Wrestling Federation next month.
Confirming the event, President of the Arm-Wrestling Federation Charles Osei Asibey disclosed that the Federation will organise an Arm Wrestling battle dubbed the ‘National Open’ on April 22, at the Accra Sports Stadium. He said the basic idea is to raise a national team for the upcoming African championship in Nigeria.
“So out of the championship in April, we will put together the national team, were we will have the technical director for the World Arm- Wrestling Federation coming down to train Coaches, train referees and spend some time with the national team in May. Then in June, we move to Nigeria for the African Championship.”
The Federation on Thursday, April 6 organized a training of the trainer’s course for the security services in Ghana. The event was patronized by personnel’s from the Ghana Armed-forces, Police service, Fire service, Immigration, Prisons and CEPS.
The participants were taken through the basic rules, techniques, and jargons of the sport.
Meanwhile, the federation has made Arm-wrestling tables available at the Accra Sports Stadium for training towards the Open championship.
Arm wrestling in Ghana started a year ago and it is making a huge impact in the sporting fraternity in the country.
