Accra, Dec. 31, GNA - Moses Armah of Winneba defeated Herman Abban of Alisa Hotel 10-6 through 'Sudden Death' rule to win this year's Christmas Juniors' Open Tennis Championship which ended at the Ghana Lawn Tennis Club Courts in Accra on Tuesday. The champion won the first game of the Under-16 by smashing his opponent 6-1, but lost the second game by the same margin, thus forcing the game to be decided on the 'Sudden death' rule after the neck to neck battle which was eventually won by Armah. Marseille Agbegne of Winneba also beat his team-mate Albert Tetteh 6-1, 6-3 to clinch victory in the Under-12 category. Francisca Nyarko came first in the Girls Division with the second position taken by Briony Boateng with the third position going to Brette Boateng in the All-Play-All game.

The three-day vent was jointly-sponsored by Scancom Ghana Limited, the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council, Juvita Ghana Limited and some individuals. Mr Derick Garbrah, Chairman of the Ghana Lawn Tennis Club said the aim of the event was to unearth and help the youth to develop their talents.

He said it was also aimed at occupying the children's past time during the Christmas with enjoyable sporting events since the devil finds work for idle hands to cause mischief. Mr Garbrah said plans are far advanced to include the five to seven year olds in the Club's future competitions. He called for maximum support especially from the corporate bodies to enable the club to develop the sport into an appreciable and up to the international level.
