Ghana’s Amwrestling team, the Golden Arms are heading into this year’s Africa Armwrestling Championship with a primary objective of defending the title they won in 2018.

Last year, the team polled a total of 88 medals to make their host and win agenda a reality, clocking 31 gold medals in the process.

Speaking at a media workout at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, July 4, the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Assibey explained that Ghana will be competing in the tournament with ten athletes which he believes will win at least 20 medals for the country.

He noted that the regional tours and training camps organized by GAF have placed the players in the right shape and condition for the competition.

“In exactly a week from today, we’ll be going to Mali for the 10th Africa Armwrestling championship in Bamako. We will go into Africa and possibly try to defend the trophy we hosted and won in 2018. We are confident we will be able to come home with 20 medals”, he said.

GAF also used the opportunity to announce its partnership with kits manufacturers, Strike.

The deal which was brokered by Club Consult Africa will see the Golden Arms properly kitted and branded by Strike.

The director of Club Consult Africa, Yussif Chibsah hopes that the deal will serve as motivation for the athletes as they head into the tournament.

“Strike is in Ghana not to only do football but to help with the development of sports. So we found this as an opportunity to show what we stand for and to push Ghana sports ahead. I believe the athletes will be motivated by this”. Osei Assibey also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for providing the team with travelling tickets.

He also acknowledged the support of K-Balm Ointment and Opportunity International Servings and Loans.

The Golden Arms are expected to leave Ghana on July 11 for the tournament in Bamako, Mali
