Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan says he chose a move to lowly-ranked Turkish topflight side Kayserispor because he identified with their project.
The 31-year-old is officially on the books of the Kayseri-based club having passed a mandatory medical on Thursday. He has put his signature to an initial two-year contract as a free agent.
“When the Chairman [Erol Bedir] told me about the project here, I did my own checks and was satisfied. It was very simple for me to be here. I am very happy to be here. If I were unhappy, I would not come,” Gyan said at his unveiling.
“The decision-making process took a long time. We had to think from every angle, everything in terms of possibilities and material.
“I believe that Kayserispor will have a much better future” and “Turkey will be a great experience for me. The Turkish League is among the leading leagues; I am very happy that I am part of this league…,” he added.
On his season’s targets, Gyan said: “I’m not the type who likes to promise a particular number of goals but as I am here I’m going to do my best to score as much I can and help the team succeed.
Contrary to reports that the Ghana national team captain was taking 1.5 million euros, the Kayserispor chairman announced that Gyan will rather enjoy a “550,000 euros take home per year and will receiving 15,000 as bonus.”
Asamoah Gyan has been excused to return to Ghana where he is set to be conferred an honorary doctorate this weekend.
