General Captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan ranks as the highest scoring international by some distance- going to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Kayserispor forward is Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals since his debut in 2003, which also puts him head and shoulders above any other player that will be participating in the continent’s flagship tournament which starts on Friday.

While Algeria’s Islam Slimani follows with 27 goals for The Desert Warriors.

Stéphane Sessègnon (Benin) and Emmanuel Okwi (Uganda) complete the top five with 21 and 20 goals respectively.

Gyan’s career has had many blissful highs yet some distressing lows, but even as he prepares for one final hurrah with the Black Stars, much of the country’s hope of ending a 37-year wait for a trophy rides on his shoulders.
