Asamoah Gyan praises Coach Jones Attuquayefio for influencing his career

Ghana forward, Asamoah Gyan has lauded legendary coach, Jones Attuquayefio for influencing his football career.

Gyan is one of the players to have ever played for the national team and the local league.

The 34-year-old remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals to his credit.

Gyan, since making his Black Stars debut in 2003 has made a massive contribution to the national team.

Having shot to prominence in the national team and at club level, the 33-year-old reveals he owes a lot to celebrated Ghanaian Coach Cecil Jones Attuquayefio who passed on five years ago.

“I was playing at the (Liberty) Academy till the late Jones Attuquayefio was appointed, so I was with the second team and he saw me training with the Academy one time, he stopped and watched me and told the late Sly Tetteh he wanted me to join the senior team,” Gyan said in an interview with GTV Sports plus.

“So I was promoted together with Michael Helegbe, we were playing the top four by then and played a game against Hearts of Oak so Jones called me from the bench and told me I should do what I know how to do best and that he had so much believed in me. He introduced me into the game and that was it. So I owe him a lot, he gave me my breakthrough.

“He started all this and he is part of this great story. Wherever his now I thank him a lot.”

The iconic footballers who is already nearing retirement has made 109 appearances for the National team.

Gyan has pledged to end his playing career at Asante Kotoko.
