Wenchi, (B/A) July 20, GNA - Asamoah Gyan, a member of the national football team, the Black Stars has commended the President, government and the Ghana Football Association for their encouragement to the team during and after the just ended World Cup tournament in Germany.

Addressing officials and players of Wenchiman Heroes Football Club at Wenchi after joining them in a training session, the Black Stars striker said the support and love showed by the government and all Ghanaians encourage members of the national team to perform creditably. Gyan, a native of Wenchi expressed appreciation to the supporters who accompanied the team to Germany for their pieces of advice, which he said had also helped the team to put up such a vintage performance at the global tournament.

He said that the team's trial matches against Korea, Turkey and Jamaica prior to the World Cup contributed much to the splendid show of the Stars "as they helped us to develop new skills".

The national striker however recalled the penalty he missed against the Czech Republic with nostalgia, saying it was "a bitter and unforgettable" event in his professional career.

"I shot the ball after hearing the sound of the whistle, not knowing it did not come from the referee as I was anxious to score goals for Ghana", Gyan explained.

He advised the players of Wenchiman Heroes to take their training seriously in order to build on their talents and become professionals in future, whilst cautioning them against indulgence in pre-marital sex, wee smoking and alcoholism.

The striker paid special tribute to his elder brother, Baffour Gyan who now plies his football career in Russia, for his advice and encouragement.
