Asamoah Gyan’s legal team are set for defamation showdown with controversial lawyer Maurice Ampaw for his role in the rape saga which almost tainted the envious career of the Black Stars captain.

The tough-talking practitioner has been heavy on an alleged rape case involving his former client Sarah Kwablah and the Ghana skipper which has dominated talking points in the country for months.

The country’s Attorney General has quashed the case or lack of merit, but it appears the legal team of the Black Stars leader won’t allow the lawyer to go scot free for making defamatory statements against him.

Gyan’s representative Kissi Adjabeng has set notice of a legal showdown against the controversial lawyer in court.

“As we sit here Maurice Ampaw has already been sued. He has been sued in respect of one matter. It is going to open up and fresh suits will follow,” he told journalists in Accra on Tuesday.

“He is already a defendant in a defamation suit. In this matter too there will be fresh suits served on him. As for him, he is not going anywhere in this matter as far as we are concerned. Suits will be served on him.”

He added: “We live in a country founded on freedom of speech. He is free to say anything he wants, but there are consequences. At the appointed time, he will face those consequences will come to play

“The media gives him the platform. I am wondering why. Every five minutes he is called. Perhaps if you stop giving him the platform, on what platform will he mount the tirade against the captain. Maybe you should be introspective and ask yourself that question.”
