Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko has begun discussions to extend the contract of their midfielder, Mohammed Sherrif, who has only a few months remaining on his current deal.

Sherrif, a 22-year-old defensive midfielder, has expressed his eagerness to continue his journey with the Porcupines. He joined Asante Kotoko from the lower-tier club Steadfast Academy in 2021 and has since become a key member of the team.

However, the box-to-box midfielder's season was abruptly cut short due to a motor accident in Tamale, causing him to miss most of the second half of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season. Despite this setback, Sherrif managed to play 16 games for Kotoko, scoring twice and providing one assist before his unfortunate accident.

Overall, Sherrif has made 61 league appearances for Kotoko, contributing two goals and four assists. His contributions have been significant, and the club is eager to retain his services as they gear up for the 2024/25 season.

Following a challenging season that saw the Porcupine Warriors finish in sixth place without any silverware, the club is now concentrating on restructuring their squad. To date, they have released eighteen players, with two more expected to depart. Some players are likely to be loaned out, while others, like Sherrif, are being considered for new contracts.
