Asante Kotoko have launched a formal investigation into claims of an attempted bribery involving members of its playing squad before their final Ghana Premier League fixture against Swedru All Blacks at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Reports circulating before the match suggested that an individual had allegedly tried to influence players in the lead-up to Sunday’s encounter. The issue was reportedly flagged internally by defender Patrick Asidu, who brought the matter to the attention of the club’s management.
In a statement released on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the club confirmed that its Board and Management had met with players and technical staff a day earlier to review concerns over the team’s underwhelming performances throughout the 2025/26 campaign.
The discussions also addressed the bribery allegations, which surfaced just before the final league fixture.
The club said a full investigation has since been initiated to establish the facts surrounding the claims, adding that it remains committed to upholding integrity and discipline within its ranks.
Management commended Asidu for what it described as professionalism, noting that he acted swiftly in reporting the incident through the appropriate channels.
“Asante Kotoko treats issues of this nature with the utmost seriousness,” the statement emphasized, adding that any individual found culpable will face disciplinary measures.
The Kumasi-based club further reiterated its commitment to accountability and high professional standards as it seeks to stabilise after a difficult season.
On the pitch, however, Kotoko suffered a 2-1 defeat to Swedru All Blacks in the match that followed the controversy.
