In a period that Ghana football is expected to be going through a process of normalization, Asante Kotoko will be playing Techiman Eleven Wonders on what appears like a potato field in the Match Day 3 of the NC Special Competition.
The semi-grassless field at Nkoranza will be hosting the Ghanaian giants as they play as guests to the Techiman-based side who have been forced to relocate due to renovation works ongoing on the Nana Ameyaw Park in Techiman.
Techiman Eleven Wonders, according to reports, are renovating their pitch at the Nana Ameyaw Park, forcing them to shift their home games to the Nkoranza Park which is in a bad state.
The embarrassing state of the field quickly caught the headlines when skipper of the home side, Abdul Wahab, complained bitterly about the field and how it will affect the game.
According to the striker, the pitch is not good enough to host a Premier League game and it will reduce the quality of the game on Sunday when they welcome the Porcupine Warriors.
“Our game with Kotoko will be like a Division One match because of the pitch.
“The pitch at the Nkoranza Park is not good for a Premier League sides,” Abdul Wahab complained in an interview with Silver FM Sports on Saturday.
Despite the passionate complain from the skipper of the home side, the Ghana FA Normalization Committee has already approved the semi-grassless pitch impregnated with uncountable potholes to host Premier League football.
The shocking state of the field has stirred controversy in the media with genuine concerns popping up on what the committee is really doing to normalize the Ghanaian game.
With the mandate of normalizing Ghana football, it was least expected that such a potato pitch will be allowed to host a Premier League football in Ghana.
Strangely, the Nkoranza Park has not even hosted Division One League games in so many years let alone Premier League football.
It still remains shocking as to why the Normalization Committee endorsed a pitch in that state to host elite football games.
While Asante Kotoko will be looking to register their first away win in the competition, the home side are poised to register their first home win.
But that still remains a huge doubt as the quality of the game is facing a huge threat with both teams looking very unhappy about the state of the field.
