AshGold reach Liverpool deal

European champions Liverpool have reached an agreement with Ghanaian side Ashgold to start a possible reciprocal cooperation.

The English club has agreed to help the Obuasi-based club improve its standards while the possibility of Ashgold being a feeder club of Liverpool in Africa is being explored.

Liverpool CEO Rick Parry reached the agreement with Ashgold Board Chairman Mr. Dan Owiredu and CEO Kudjoe Fianoo at Anfield at the end of the 8-day visit in England on Wednesday, initiated by Ghanaian football marketing giants, Proton Marketing and Management Services three days ago.

The five-time European champions will send some of its coaches to Ghana in May to have some workouts with the Ashgold academy as Liverpool seek to assess the facilities of Ashgold and its capacity to deliver quality talents.

?We are thrilled by the offer Liverpool have made us and we hope that opportunities can be explored to the benefit of both clubs and also Ghanaian footballers,? Kudjoe Fianoo told Ghanaweb.

?We are in this relationship for a long haul as possible.

?We will strive to tap the enormous knowledge and networking at the disposal of Proton for the benefit of not only Ashgold but also Ghanaian and African football at large.? Fianoo said.

Liverpool also offered to explore the possibility of getting a kit supplier for the Obuasi-based club with Adidas and Reebok in the frame of initial discussions.

Ashgold head coach David Duncan also stands the chance of working with Liverpool?s astute tactitian Rafa Benitez in future while the possibility of the Liverpool visiting Ghana is being explored in one of their pre-season sessions is also being considered.

Mr Edwin Simeon-Okraku, CEO of Proton Marketing Services said this is one of many opportunities lined up by his company for the benefit of Ghanaian and African football.
