Head coach for Obuasi Ashanti Gold, C.K Akonnor, has lauded the performance of his players after beating Hearts of Oak away from home in their match day 20 encounter.
Ashanti Gold defied all odds and went ahead to halt the unbeaten run of the Phobians by piping Hearts in Accra. A 12th minute goal from Daniel Gozar, his second successive goal, was all the ‘Miners’ needed to pick their fourth win in the month of June.
The win has thus seen Ashanti Gold gain four more points over 14th placed Elmina Sharks, who have a game in hand against Tarkwa-based Medeama SC on Thursday.
“I am very happy. It’s was a wonderful performance,” Akonnor said after the match.
“It’s another step forward. It was a good game and we played well in addition. It’s was a fantastic performance from the players.”
Ashanti Gold joins Liberty Professionals and Asante Kotoko as the only clubs without a defeat in their last five matches in the league.
The ‘Elephants’ have recorded their first win over Hearts in Accra for the first time since 2012 – five years now.
