Male seniors winner Opoku (M) flanked by first and second runners-up
A spirited sprint under flood light by Shadrach Opoku handed him the ultimate crown in the Surfline Ghana’s Fastest Human (GFH) seniors final in Kumasi last Saturday.
The proud winner dethroned favourites Emmanuel Appiah Kubi and Emmanuel Yeboah in the Ashanti Region dominated event watched by close to 10,000 spectators.
Unlike the male category, Beatrice Gyaaman, Greater Accra Fire Service retained her crown in the ladies category, after racing past Happy Abruyaa and Kate Agyemang.
And for their efforts, winners in the seniors (Male and female) categories took home GHc5,000 each, U-18 received GHc3,000, the U-13 winners took home GHc2,000 apiece and U-10 received GHc1,000 plus Surfline, GNPC, Adidas and First Atlantic products.
It was Sarfo Ansah, Jachie Pramso SHS, who reigned supreme in the boys U-18 event with Banabas Asante, Labone SHS and Ronald Kumi following in that order.
Latifatu Ali, TI Amass dominated in the girls’ event with Mary Boakye and Ernestina Ayi, Tema, following in that order.
Emmanuel Arthur, Amankwatia won the U-13 boys event, while Ernest Ofori, Amankwatia and Abdul Salam Abdul Aziz trailed.
Kokoben’s Mary Gyebi finished first in the girls category with Doris Afriyie, TI Amass and Constance Adjei following.
Chairman for the event Baffour Agyei Kesse IV described the winners as the future of Ghana’s sprints and lauded the sponsors for rallying behind such a noble cause.
The U-10 boys category saw TI Amass’ Nathaniel Boadu emerging winner, while school mate Nurudeen Awudu and Ernest Osei of Oforikrom following in that order.
TI Amass extended its dominance to the girls’ category with Emmanuela Oppong finishing first. Henrietta Ofori, St Augustine Primary and Ellen Opoku finished second and third respectively.
GFH, a Reks Brobby initiative sponsored by Surfline and powered by GNPC is a seven year program started in 2013 with focus on 100 meters.
