Accra, March 3, GNA - Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports has tasked the various Associations under the auspices of the National Sports Council (NSC) to put their houses in order to attract the desired assistance from government.
The Associations are mandated to register as corporate bodies limited by guarantees to qualify for support from government under the yet-to-be passed Sports Bill.
Mr Amoah told the GNA Sports that 93the need to have associations registered, get a constitution and give it a national character are all part of our efforts to make them suit the modern trends of running sports".
These are among the requirements in the Sports Bill that is aimed at improving sports administration in the country.
The Deputy Minister said Associations who fail to comply with the directives will receive no governmental funding for their programs. He therefore tasked the Associations to have its presence felt in at least 70 percent of the nation within the next few days. Mr Amoah said he is also clamouring for a proper constitution capable of ensuring assumption of leadership only through elections. "Getting elected to lead the associations will add a lot to their growth.
"Leaders will know that getting a second chance means their ability to deliver and that alone will motivate them to step up their output to win the confidence of the voters.
"It is about time we depart from that era where appointment is the order of the day and the appointing authorities sometimes find it uneasy to kick out under performers because of the possible embarrassment that will cause those administrators".
