Association to introduce cycling league

Accra, Jan 7, GNA - The Greater Cycling Association would begin the maiden edition of a Cycling League this year as part of efforts to promote the sport in the country.

The League, according to the Association will commence in April and end in November with eight racing teams from Accra and Tema participating. Charles Johnson, Trustee/Development Coordinator of the Greater Accra Cycling Association told the GNA Sports that the League dubbed, "Weekend Series" would cover a distance of 60, 75, 100 and 115 kilometers every weekend.

He said the League would be under the sponsorship of Bahmed Travel and Tours, TT Brothers, MTN, Men's Deodorant and Coca Cola Company with backing from the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports.

Johnson said outstanding cyclist would receive attractive cash prizes each weekend to encourage more participants to make the League more competitive.
