Accra, April 11, GNA - The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) have announced that this year's Junior Athletics Championship will be held from 21 -24 April, 2011 at the sports oval of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST) Kumasi.
The championship which will feature selected athletes from the 10 regions would feature those not more than 19 years of age. Bawa Fuseini, General Secretary of the GAA told GNA Sports in Accra that the event has been christened 93Maria Tsakos International Championship" with sponsorship from the Maria Tsakos Foundation. He said the athletes will participate in field and track events during the championship, with the best performers to be selected for a place in the national team for the 7th World Youth Championships in Athletics scheduled for 6-10 July, 2010 in Lille, France.
The GAA scribe said preparations are advanced to ensure the successful organization of the championship which is held annually. Fuseini said participating teams are expected to report on April 21, whilst the main championship takes place from 22-23 April, with the departure slated for 24-hours later.
He expressed the conviction that athletes who excel at the competition will serve the backbone of the national athletics team for future tournaments.
