Coach Kwasi Appiah may have to do without two of his recently called-up players for Ghana’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan in Kumasi next Sunday due to various injuries, footy-Ghana.com gathers.

On loan Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong missed out of Fulham’s squad that defeated Tottenham away on Sunday after picking up a groin injury at training during the week casting serious doubts about him recovering in time to honour his debut Ghana call.

Later on Sunday evening, playmaker Christian Atsu was handed one of his rare starts in the FC Porto starting line-up that drew 1-1 away to Maritimo in the Portuguese league. He was favoured for winger Silvestre Valera who had a poor performance against Malaga in the uefa Champions League during the week.

The 21-year old however was forced out of the game with what looked like a bad knock in the 5th minute of the game. Atsu could not walk off the pitch without the assistance of Porto's medical team.

The Porto medical department have confirmed Christian Atsu suffered a right ankle sprain and will be re-assessed in a couple of days to determine the severity of the injury. The midfielder also took to twitter on Sunday evening to confirm the news.

“I got my ankle twisted in this evening’s game against Maritimo. I know God made everything happened to my favour. Thank you Jehovah,” Atsu consoled himself.

The duo if ruled out of next Sunday’s game is likely not to be replaced as coach Kwasi Appiah’s 24-man squad catered for such eventualities.
