Atsu happy at Porto; set to renew contract

Fast rising Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu is eyeing a lengthy stay with Portuguese giants FC Porto despite growing rumours of interest from some European top clubs.

The 20-year old who has been one of the revelations of FC Porto in the current season has revealed his manager is currently holding talks over renewal of his contract days after being linked with Premier League side Tottenham Hot Spurs who are managed by former coach Andre Villas-Boas who discovered him.


Footy-Ghana.com understands Atsu’s current contract with FC Porto ends in 2014 and has a termination clause worth €10 million.


“We are in talks to renew the contract. Porto is a great club and I want to stay. These things are in the hands of my manager. I only think about playing, nothing more. I'm happy at FC Porto, is a family for me,” Atsu said.


“My dream is to be holder of the team, playing alongside Varela, James or Jackson. I want to win a place in the starting eleven,” the 20-year old added.

Atsu further briefly touched on the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations slated for January 2013 in South Africa.


“The Cup of Nations will be a good showcase for me, hope everything goes well,” the Porto winger commented.


Ghana is matched in Group B of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with Niger, Mali and DR Congo.
