Attoh Quarshie dominates Championship

Accra, March 17, GNA - Accra-based Attoh Quarshie Gym became the dominant force at the Week five of the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) Championships.

The event, which came off at the Prison's Canteen on Friday, saw the Attoh Quarshie Gym emerging victors in all the five bouts they competed in, two in the Lightweight and one each in the Light- Welterweight, Welterweight and Middleweight divisions.

All the boxers won the respective bouts via unanimous decisions, putting the Gym in hot contention for the overall best Gym award. In the Lightweight division, Ofei Duodu silenced Odoi Yemefio of the De-Oak's Gym, setting the pace for an Attoh Quarshie dominance. Yemefio, with the youthful audience rooting for him, was no match for Duodu who unsettled the favourite of the fans with series of punches.

Evans Duodu also accounted for Kofi Quaye Wilson of the Black Panthers Gym in the Lightweight division.

The Light-Welterweight division saw Quarshie Gym's Isaac Lamptey replicating a similar feat over Jacob Kotey of the Billy Kotey Gym while King Paul defeated Paul Kofi of the Dade Gym in the Welterweight bout, which was termed 93Battle of the Paul's."

Charles Stella also of Quarshie Gym defied all odds to send Felix Agbozo of the Ashaiman Gym empty handed in the Middleweight category. Vincent Akai Nettey, trainer of the Attoh Quarshie Gym attributed the outstanding performance of his wards to serious training and dedication when he spoke to the GNA Sports.

"It was not because the opponents were weak, but we had taken our boxers through the rudiments of the sport to keep them ready for any battle at any time."

Nettey said that his Gym has a lot of young and skillful boxers, promising more dominance in subsequent championship fights. In other bouts of the night, Joshua Barnor of Panix Gym defeated Eric Doku of the Will Power Gym whilst Raymond Commey of the Square Deal Gym overpowered Wisdom Gym's Ayena Ayerica, both in the Featherweight division.

Sanie Dindana beat James Kotey in an all Wisdom Gym affair in the Bantamweight Division with Fit Square's Manyo Plange defeating Mathias Sulley of the Square Deal Gym in the Flyweight division.
