Autonomous Premier League: Ghana FA not getting right advice - Coudjoe Amankwah

Seasoned South African based Ghanaian journalist Coudjoe Amankwah has stated that the Ghana Football Association is not getting the right advice on how to successfully run an autonomous Ghana Premier League.

The GFA after years of deliberations has finally activated the process for putting finishing touches to making the county’s elite league an independent body, similar to what pertains to England, Nigeria, and South Africa among others.

The journey to make the GPL autonomous began more than ten years ago and there have been wide consultations initiated by the country’s football governing body.

Coudjoe Amankwah who has had stints with SABC and has closely followed the South African top-flight since its inception believes the Ghana Premier league going autonomous is a step in the right direction.

He, however, has lamented why his expertise has been ignored all this while during the consultation process.

He told Takoradi based Skyy Power FM that “it’s a step in the right direction but the only problem is that the Ghanaian football authorities are not getting the right advice”

“They have gone to England before, I don’t know what they learnt there, they’ve come to South Africa several times but none of them have spoken to me. I truly love Ghana and would always want what’s in the best interest of my country”, Amankwah passionately noted.

“I was here when the PSL started; the consultant who helped the PSL become a commercial success is a very good friend, so how do you come to SA to study the PSL model without consulting me for advice”, he quizzed.

“Life is about competition and you don’t expect the PSL leadership to expose you to all their strategies that made them win” he mentioned.
