Ghana Coach Avram Grant has jumped to the defence of striker Jordan Ayew, stating that fans must not disrespect the France-based attacker just because of his mistakes in attack for the Black Stars at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Lorient attacker has been at the receiving end of insults from several fans for his wastefulness in front of goal after featuring in the Black Stars three group games at the continental tournament.
“The players are giving everything for the country. They are fighting. People can speak about his (Jordan Ayew) mistakes; it’s not a problem, but they need to respect them,” Coach Grant said.
“It’s not good that after every bad game they want to give up on a player because it’s not right. Jordan Ayew is a very good player, and I am sure he will give a lot to the national team in the near future,” he added.
Coach Grant is awaiting the scan results on the injury situation of Asamoah Gyan to decide whether to start Kwesi Appiah and Jordan Ayew or Mahatma Otoo for the semi-final against host Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.
