Chairman of Ghana Premier League Board, Welbeck Abra-Appiah has slammed Black Stars coach Avram Grant for his agent’s disparaging remarks on the Ghanaian top flight, labeling the Israeli as a “big disappointment”.

The outgoing PLB stressed that for Grant’s unfortunate posture and brazen lack of commitment in the job, it would have been better if Ghana had maintained Kwesi Appiah as head coach.

Abbra-Appiah believes coach Avram Grant and his agent Saif Rubie are taking Ghana for Granted and their swipe at the “low-grade” Ghana League is only divert attention and criticisms of his incompetence and frequent travels.

“When Kwesi Appiah was the head coach, he did his best and so if this is what Grant will be doing, then it was better to maintain Kwesi Appiah as coach because Grant hasn’t done anything better than Kwesi Appiah”, Abbrah-Appiah told Sportscrusader.com

“What cup has Grant won for Ghana that he would bluff on us and chastise our league? He quizzed. Kwesi Appiah at least went out picking some local players and if you (Grant) cannot do your job well and being travelling around and GFA want to query you then you want to shift the goal post on Ghana League”,

The respected football administrator says he has been flared up by Grant’s incessant travels and his denigration of the local league, on which he believes the hiring of the former Chelsea manager has rather been a big disappointment for Ghana.

“I met him and I told him that he has been a disappointment to Ghana because he cannot tell us that there are no quality materials in the league”,

“That is unfortunate for a coach of his pedigree and I think he cannot do anything for Ghana if he continues on this embarrassing path”.

Grant, who was appointed by Ghana in December 2014, has come under intense pressure from Ghanaians for his long holidays abroad but the recent comments by his agent on the quality of the Ghana League has further incensed several top football guns.
