James Odoi Wilson is the District Sports Director of the assembly
The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly (AWMA) has been crowned the winner of the 2024 Inter-District Sports Festival, held from August 25 to 31, 2024, at the University of Ghana Athletic Oval.
The event, organized by the Greater Accra Regional Sports Authority, brought together over five districts and municipal assemblies from across the capital.
The week-long festival featured a range of sporting events, including football, volleyball, athletics, and more.
The AWMA team demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, dominating the competitions and earning the top spot.
The AWMA's impressive performance yielded a total of 23 medals: 12 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.
In addition to their medal haul, AWMA won the following trophies: Athletics Men Champions, Athletics Females Champions, and Overall Champions.
The event aimed to promote unity, sports development, and healthy competition among the districts and municipal assemblies.
It also provided a platform for athletes to showcase their talents and potentially get discovered.
The district sports director, James Odoi Wilson, in an interview with AccraDailyPost, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Municipal Chief Executive, Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah, and Bernard Kwasi Pari SAKYIAMA, Municipal Coordinating Director, for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout the competitions.
According to him, their leadership and guidance played a significant role in the team's success.
The win by AWMA serves as a motivation for other districts and municipal assemblies to invest in sports development and prepare for future competition.
