Andre Ayew and his brother Jordan Ayew have met with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over their return to the Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars.

The Ayews, who met President John Mahama two weeks ago, announced their return to the national team after temporarily retiring.

The two brothers met with the Ashanti King to talk about events leading up to their retirement, their return, and the way forward with the King said to have given them some sound advice.

The meeting was confirmed by spokesperson of the Ayew family, Fiifi Tackie, speaking with Kumasi-based Metro FM.

He said: “Nana asked them what had happened to trigger their quitting. They explained it and he gave them advice afterwards. They duly thanked him for the advice and also thanked him for the honour of meeting him.”

Andre Ayew had quit citing problems with management, whilst his younger brother quit on the grounds that his place in the Black Stars wasn’t guaranteed. “(As to why they quit) I don’t think it is relevant now,” Tackie continued.

“Nana advised them, saying even though they have regular playing time back at their club, playing regularly for the national team also has its benefits and will help them a lot.”

The Marseille duo will be available for selection when Ghana face Zambia on the last match day in Group D of CAF’s Second Round of World Cup Qualifiers. (September 6, 2013).

“The boys took the advice in good faith and will act upon it when next they are invited into the team,” he added.
