Legendary Ghanaian boxer Azumah Nelson is convinced the twelve boxers lined up for the special edition of the Azumah Nelson Fight Night will give a good representation of Ghana boxing.
Dubbed the ‘Year of Return’ edition, the fight night which has over the years thrilled patrons with competitive and captivating boxing bouts has billed six fights on the night, December 27.
With an assembly of highly rated boxers drawn from the various gyms in the country, the boxing icon is confident fireworks will be on display on the night.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the Professor as he is widely referred to assured patrons of explosive actions on the night.
Azumah said that organizing bouts like his are a major step in reviving the sport that is currently without a world title.
“Everybody knows about Azumah Nelson Boxing Night. We don’t just promote, we make sure you come and enjoy yourself with good boxers. I want everybody to be there on the 27th and have fun because it is going to be a great Christmas. Every fight gives hope and I know that this one too is going to give the young boxers hope”.
The topliner of the night is between Michael Mensah popularly known as One Bullet and Benjamin Lamptey in the PBC Lightweight category.
A National WABU Super Featherweight title will be up for grabs when Felix Ajom takes on Michael Pappoe.
Ishmael Tetteh and Delali Miledzi will square it off in a Super Middleweight contest.
Other bouts on the night include Musa Lawson versus Naimou Samson Aziz of Benin, Faisal Abubaka and Sossa Cudjo Hypolite from Benin and Manyo Plange and Isaac Nettey.
The Manager of the Year of Return, Annabelle Renee McKenzi eulogized Azumah Nelson and praised him for his role in the projection of Ghana to the outside world.
“I want to thank Azumah for everything he has done for boxing. I moved to Ghana recently and he is one of the people I researched on. The Year of Return was launched to commemorate 400 years since the first black African slave arrived in Jamestown, Virginia. So in 2019 we’ve held over 150 events and the fight night is one of the events we officially endorse”, she said.
