Sunyani, (B/A) Feb. 14, GNA - Christian Gyan Abrefa's 75th minute goal enabled B.A. United to beat visiting Bechem F.C. 1-0 in the Zone 931B" MTN-sponsored FA Soccer competition played at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Sunday.
The left-footed shot by defender Abrefa was so powerful that Bechem F/C's stoutly built goalkeeper Ransford Kudjoe who had earlier made some hair-raising saves could have no answer to.
Before the goal, the Bechem lads, who are currently leading the group with 13 points, showed consistency in attack and with Richard Afriyie, Gabriel Atta Osei, Daniel Akuoku (captain), Mustapha and Issah Adamu proved a thorn in the flesh of the defence of B.A. United in the first half of the game.
The visitors could however not find the net as goalkeeper Kwame Noah of B.A. United also proved 91a stubborn cat" in the posts, thwarting all their attempts at goal.
On resumption of the second half, B.A. United, led in attack by Roger Nortey, who was indisputably the best player of the day, redoubled their efforts as they created several goal-scoring chances but woefully squandere= d them through erratic shooting.
"Tiko" Nortey never relaxed in his hunt for at least a goal as he made positional changes and it was during one of his deceitful arrangements that he sent a diagonal cross for Abrefa to score.
The Bechem boys tried their possible best to get the equalizer and nearly achieved this during injury time but substitute Ransford Cudjoe's one-time shot was perfectly saved by goalkeeper Noah. 14 Feb. 2011
