Head coach of Sudan, James Kwasi Appiah, has resigned from his role as Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

According to Asante Forkuo, Kwasi Appiah’s aide, the decision was taken due to a conflict of interest regarding the coach’s dual role as a member of the GFA and Sudan head coach simultaneously.

It was also indicated that it is a temporary resignation, lasting until November 2024, to enable Appiah to focus solely on the Sudan team as they prepare to face the Black Stars of Ghana.

“Coach Kwasi Appiah has temporarily stepped aside as Executive Council Member of the GFA until the end of November 2024. In response to CAF copied GFA, he cited conflict of interest as the reason. Since the start of AFCON qualifiers, Appiah has excused himself from all EXCO activities,” Asante Forkuo shared on X on October 7, 2024.

Pressure on Appiah has increased since his team, Sudan, was drawn into the same group as Ghana for the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council (Exco) member, Dr. Randy Abbey, revealed that Kwasi Appiah has not attended any Exco meetings since the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying draw.

Kwasi Appiah was elected onto the Exco in 2023 after amassing 10 votes. He qualified for the role due to his position as a member of Asante Kotoko's Interim Management Committee.

The Black Stars are winless in their first two games and will hope to get back to winning ways when they face Sudan on matchday three of the qualifiers.

Ghana will face Sudan in a doubleheader, with the first leg slated for October 11 and the return leg on October 14, 2024.

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association is the highest decision-making body in Ghana football. It comprises 22 members, including the President of the GFA.
