In Goal Ghana’s latest poll, we asked readers whether they thought a move to Chelsea would be good for Black Stars left-back Abdul Rahman Baba.
You responded in your droves, and, intriguingly, the vast majority do not think that a transfer to Stamford Bridge would be a good move for the defender—at least not at this stage of his career.
64.1 percent of respondents confirmed that they didn’t think a move to West London would be good for the left-back, meaning that only 35.9 percent backed Baba to make the transition to Jose Mourinho’s side.
The Portugal coach is understood to be an admirer of the defender, with various sources linking him heavily with a summer approach for the talented Augsburg man.
ESPN reported earlier this week that the Pensioners were leading the race for the full-back, although they face competition from heavyweights such as Manchester City, Arsenal and Juventus, all of whom have been linked with a move for the youngster.
It’s intriguing to speculate as to why Goal Ghana readers are concerned about Baba’s move.
Do you think that the player will struggle for game time at Stamford Bridge? Filipe Luis moved to Chelsea last summer as a Liga BBVA winner and a Champions League finalist, but still couldn’t usurp Cesar Azpilicueta.
Are you concerned about Chelsea’s stockpiling of young players? Have the struggles of the likes of Gael Kakuta, Victor Moses and Christian Atsu convinced you that Baba might end up in the wilderness if he switches to the Blues?
Perhaps he’s not ready for a move. The player is, after all, only 20, and despite his impressive performances with the national side, maybe another year at Augsburg will do him good.
Finally, would another of Baba’s suitors be a better bet for the player? Arsenal and Manchester City may be set to slug it out for the player's signature, and both have had problems at left-back, and may offer a better route to first-team football, while Juventus will soon be shortly requiring a long-term successor for Patrice Evra. Could Baba be the ideal man for this job?
