Baffoe lauds Black Queens for fighting for unpaid bonuses

Former Ghana defender Anthony Baffoe has lauded the Black Queens for the manner in which they stuck together to demand payment of outstanding bonuses due them.

The players of the senior women’s team refused to leave their designated hotel in agitation of unpaid bonuses after their return from a successful campaign from the 2015 All Africa Games.

It took the intervention of President John Mahama to diffuse the standoff between the Black Queens and the Sports Ministry who claimed there was no money to settle their bonus arrears.

President Mahama ordered for the payment of $5000 to each player as down payment for the over $25,000 owed with the promise that the outstanding amount would be settled at a future date.

The President will now be meeting with the team over the weekend with the expectation of resolving the problem once and for all.

And former Ghana defender Anthony Baffoe says he was impressed by the solidarity displayed amongst the players in fighting for what was rightfully theirs.

“The unity displayed between the players in dealing with this issue for me was very impressive,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“Their leaders; Mercy Myles, Linda and Samira dealt with the issue very well and they presented a united front.

“They were organized and were fighting for what was theirs but then again when the father of the land speaks, you must listen.

“The players did well with the way they dealt with this issue and we have to support them.”
